  • Where is Clay County, Florida?

    If you're looking for a cozy, small town vibe with all the perks of city living, Clay County in Northeast Florida might be just what you're looking for. You'll find several charming towns to explore, like Orange Park, Middleburg, Fleming Island, Green Cove Springs, Keystone Heights, and Oakleaf. And if you're in the mood for a day trip, Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine are just a short drive away. If theme parks are more your style, Disney and Universal are only about a two-hour drive.

  • Do I have to wear hose and flash?

    We understand that the Florida heat and certain medical conditions may make it challenging for everyone to wear Hose and Flash. We want you to feel comfortable and have fun, so we want you to wear whatever makes you feel your best and perform your best. We hope to see you shine in whatever you choose to wear!

  • Where are you measuring from?

    The judges will measure the distance from your plant foot. This means that if you throw with your right hand, the judges will measure from the position of your left foot, and if you throw with your left hand, the judges will measure from the position of your right foot. When it comes to measuring the distance for hammers, the judges will measure from the center of your body.

  • Is sheaf being contested?

    Yes. The men will throw a 16-pound bag, and the women will throw a 10-pound bag.

  • Do I have to wear a kilt?

    Yes, and something under the kilt, such as compression shorts.

  • Do I have to wear the game shirt on both days?

    You only need to wear the game shirt for one day and can choose any other shirt for the other day.

  • What is the Foundation for Scottish Athletics (FSA)?

    The FSA is a non-profit organization made up of mainly athletes who assist in organizing games in Florida. These games occur for a period of five months every year and the FSA collaborates with Celtic festival organizers to ensure top-notch games for athletes and festivals. The FSA board is currently headed by Dawn Schull as President, Lisa Castro as Treasurer, Leah Oxendine Miller as Secretary, Kylie Frasier as Director at Large, Jennifer Taylor as Contract Specialist and Advisor, Russell Overton as Field AD, and Bob Gourlay as Advisor.

  • Where is the closest airport?

    The closest airport is Jacksonville International Airport. It will be about a 45-minute drive from the airport to Orange Park. The Orlando International Airport is a two-hour drive to Orange Park.

  • Where is the host hotel?

    We have two host hotels located right next to each other, offering the same rates. However, there are some differences between them. The Hampton Inn provides a complimentary continental breakfast and will host the Friday night banquet. On the other hand, the Hilton Garden Inn has a bar and restaurant.   • Do you need volunteers?

  • I turn 40 in December 2024, can I compete?

    While we would love for you to join us in throwing, please note that in order to participate as a master athlete at worlds, you must be at least 40 years old by October 4, 2024.

  • I want to compete at Worlds! Where can I find the qualifying marks for my age group?

    SMAI will release this information. As soon as we have the information, we will release it on our social media sites and on this website.

  • Is there a base close by for active and retired military?

    Yes. Naval Air Station Jacksonville. The Tickets and Travel office is conveniently located in front of the Navy Exchange in building 953- A on Enterprise Avenue. The number for MWR is 904-542-3111.

  • When will athlete registration open for Worlds?

    Upon receipt of notification from SMAI about the opening of registration, we will promptly share the news across all our social media platforms and website.

  • Will flights throw on one day or two days?

    Your team will compete on two days, with awards presented at Sunday's closing ceremony.Description goes here
